I was really sure there was a bird standing on the hat of this french army girl. I was wrong. The white fluffy thing on that hat, the french calls it Képi, is actually part of the hat itself. And possibly consists of real feathers of some kind of bird. The kepi is a cap with a flat circular top and a visor. The word came into the English language from French, in which it is written with an acute accent: képi. It can be translated as "small cap".
